Center Point Independent School District Chief of Police Brian Mahler says he is in charge of the safety and security of Center Point students and staff.
"I spend much of my time patrolling around the school," he says.
"I also make sure all our school safety systems are working properly and effectively. Helping me, I have Sgt. Selena Cooley. Then I have several 'Guardians,' teachers who have a license to carry a handgun and extra training, who are armed during the school day, and carry out their protective duties in an emergency. As the big signs in front of our campuses say, 'Please be aware that the staff at Center Point ISD is armed and will use whatever force necessary to protect our students.' Former CPISD Police Chief Michael Earney is attached in a reserve role. We also work closely with the Kerr County Sheriff's Office." He says unlike some school police forces whose authority is limited to their campus, his people are authorized to go anywhere in the district, including the Center Point Secondary and Primary schools, the football field and escorting students on trips.
