POLK COUNTY, Texas (KTRE) - Following the severe weather that Tropical Depression Edouard brought to East Texas, Polk County residents and emergency organizations are rallying to assess damage and provide aid.
Christian nonprofit The Center of Hope rapidly distributed dozens of tarps to families dealing with fallen trees and roof damage."That was the first thing we had," said Mike Fortney, the nonprofit's board president.
"We opened the doors yesterday just for a couple hours towards the end of the day, and we got tarps and we gave away probably 70, 75 tarps in about a two-hour period of time."Indian Springs and low-lying areas on the edge of the county suffered the most significant impacts, with many residents experiencing prolonged power outages.
