NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - The Salvation Army is holding a Christmas in July kettle ringing event Thursday at two Lufkin locations and one in Nacogdoches, aiming to raise donations during a season when contributions typically run low.
Captain Cavon Phillips said the event is designed to engage the community while generating funds the organization relies on year-round."During the summertime, our donations are very low," Phillips said.
"It tends to be the time of the year that our donations go down during the summer. And so it's just another thing that we can do in order to get donations, but at the same time interact with the community as a whole."Kettles will be staffed at Walmart in Lufkin, Brookshire Brothers on Frank Street in Lufkin across from Pelham's, and Brookshire Brothers off University Drive in Nacogdoches.
