A little more than three months ago, Rebecca Harris saw her entire life turn upside down.

She lost both her 79-year-old mother and 27-year-old son in a single act of violence in the older woman's Shavano Park home.

"On the evening of May 27, my son, Joseph, brutally murdered my mother, Rose," she recounted before Bexar County commissioners on Tuesday morning, while holding back tears.
