Facing a yawning budget gap, San Antonio's city council voted 7-4 to raise the city's tax rate for the first time since 1992.

Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones, Marina Alderete Gavito (D7), Misty Spears (D9), and Marc Whyte (D10) voted against the tax rate.

Though split, the council still narrowly cleared the seven-vote minimum they needed to avoid handing the budget ax to City Manager Erik Walsh and city staff to determine further cuts.
