After 19 years of teaching, Kellan Hicks is getting something that doesn't come around often for a veteran educator: the feeling of starting fresh.

Hicks, a Pleasanton ISD teacher and Pleasanton graduate, is moving into second grade this school year after spending the past 10 years teaching kindergarten.

"This is my first year in second grade," Hicks said.
