The New Braunfels City Council proclaimed Oct. 21 Unplug Texas Day at their special session on Oct. 19.

The day is intended to encourage Texans to step away from cell phones, computer screens and other digital devices and spend time outdoors.

"On average, Americans spend over seven hours per day in front of screens, contributing to rising rates of inactivity, poor mental health and sleep disruption," the proclamation stated.
