Getting pets microchipped has many benefits, including helping reunite lost pets with owners quicker and reducing strain on animal shelters.

Thanks to a grant from the Downtown Rotary Club of New Braunfels, the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area is offering free microchipping for up to 500 animals.

Since starting the program in June, the shelter has microchipped 48 pets for free, with no end date currently planned for the program, HSNBA Director of Community Engagement Zac Turley said.
