A prolonged severe weather threat has prompted Gov. Greg Abbott to declare a state of disaster for Comal and Guadalupe counties as forecasters warn that additional rounds of heavy rain could bring life-threatening flash flooding across Central Texas through Thursday.
In the declaration, Governor Abbott stated that the severe storms event that began July 13, which included heavy rainfall and flash flooding, poses a threat of imminent disaster, including "widespread and severe property damage, injury or loss of life." As a result, Governor Abbott authorized the use of all available resources of state government and political subdivisions that are reasonably necessary to cope with the disaster.
The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting that intense rain rates and compounding effects from multiple rounds of storms will result in a dangerous flash flooding threat through Thursday.
