A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer who allegedly struck a man with an SUV in Houston has been placed on administrative leave as an internal investigation continues, according to a senior Department of Homeland Security official, NBC News says.

The incident involving 48-year-old Miguel Parra Hernandez happened Saturday during an immigration enforcement operation.

The officer's administrative leave comes as the Harris County District Attorney's Office investigates the incident and considers potential criminal charges.
