BIG SPRING, Texas (KOSA) - Big Spring Mayor Robert H. Moore announced the creation of a local transition task group following the federal government's decision to close the Federal Correctional Institution Big Spring and its satellite camp.

In a statement released Monday, Moore said the newly formed Big Spring Transition Task Group will coordinate local response efforts, assess the closure's economic impact, identify available resources for affected workers and collaborate with local, state and federal partners.

Task group to explore long-term developmentThe group also will explore long-term economic development opportunities for the West Texas city.
