Big Spring ISD trustees received an encouraging update on preliminary 2026 STAAR and End-of-Course (EOC) assessment results during Monday night's school board meeting, with district leaders highlighting strong academic growth across several grade levels while identifying fifth-grade math as the district's greatest opportunity for improvement.
Assistant Superintendent of Academics and Assessment Dana Scott presented the preliminary data, stressing that the figures are based on raw STAAR results and will not become official until the Texas Education Agency releases accountability ratings later this summer.
Scott told trustees the district's cohort analysis compares the same group of students as they progress from one grade level to the next, providing what she described as an "apples-to-apples" view of student growth over time.
