More than 100 volunteers showed up Saturday morning to help clean up Moss Creek Lake, marking a major step toward restoring the popular recreation area that has been closed indefinitely since late June.

The cleanup, organized in part by the Stelter Initiative and Big Spring resident Scott Emerson, began early, with about 20 people on site by 6:30 a.m. By mid-morning, that number had grown significantly as community members spread out across the property, tackling everything from overgrown grass to long-neglected structures.

Crews used weed eaters, paint brushes and heavy equipment to clear debris and improve the grounds.
