WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - Wichita Falls is replacing all 53 of its outdoor warning sirens after years of wear and tear left much of the existing equipment in need of repairs.
Emergency Management Coordinator John Henderson said 34 of the city's previous sirens were approaching 30 years old, while the remaining 19 were about 17 to 18 years old."All of them are needing some repair, especially the 34. They're starting to break down in the siren heads," Henderson said.
The city estimated it would cost about $1. 2 million to upgrade the existing system, compared to about $1. 8 million to replace it entirely.
