JASPER, Texas (KTRE) - A Kirbyville man is behind bars after the Jasper County Sheriff's Office said he hit a 10-year-old child with a belt during an altercation last month.

Markel Simmons, 18, was held Thursday at the Jasper County Jail for a warrant charging him with injury to a child, Investigator A.J. Noel said.

The arrest stems from an altercation May 24 in the 7700 block of U.S. 190 East in Jasper County.
