TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Fireworks may be a holiday tradition for many people, but the loud booms and sharp cracks can frighten pets and shelter animals.

Darryl Jeffrey said his dog, Zuke, gets scared during fireworks."It still starts to freak him out a little bit and he'll go jump under the bed when it's really bad," Jeffrey said.

Kat Cortelyou, executive director of Pets for People in Tyler, said the shelter is located in an area where people set off a lot of fireworks each year, and some of the animals in the rescue's care are scared of the noise."For animals, they don't really know what's going on," Cortelyou said.
