The United States struck targets tied to Iran hours after Iran attempted to attack American targets in the Middle East.

President Donald Trump confirmed the renewed fighting in a post on Truth Social Tuesday."The strikes are large and powerful, and in retaliation for the Iranians' failed attempt at adding sea mines to the Strait, which currently has no mines (They have been completely removed or detonated!), and the Iranians shooting eight missiles, all successfully knocked down, at our Military Base in Jordan," Trump wrote.

Trump added that if Iran retaliates for the U.S. attack, it will be "hit again at a much harder and higher level."The U.S. response comes after weeks of Iranian attacks on cargo ships and oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
