WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Community volunteers and Waco police officers gathered Thursday at the Waco Police Department to fill 1,500 backpacks with school supplies ahead of the city's annual Back to School Bash.

The 6th Annual Back to School Bash is set for Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Waco Convention Center, 100 Washington Ave. Organizers said clear backpacks will be provided and filled with supplies including paper, notebooks, pencils, crayons and folders.

Detective Eric Hawkins said the effort is meant to provide essentials that can help students feel ready for the new school year.
