BRAZORIA COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- The Brazoria County Sheriff's Office says that the deputy involved in the fatal shooting of a Texas State University student has been fired.

On Tuesday afternoon, Brazoria County Sheriff Bo Stallman announced on social media that Kevin Tippett, the deputy who shot and killed 18-year-old John Mendoza Jr., was terminated.

Authorities say that Mendoza Jr. was shot and killed in the garage of his Lake Jackson home on June 1.
