A Virginia sheriff shed more light on the search for a 5-year-old nonverbal girl near Pawleys Island, South Carolina, which ended in tragedy Monday morning.
Washington County Sheriff Blake Andis said Saylor Hayes and her family are from the Bristol, Virginia, area, where the 5-year-old girl had been enrolled in the agency's Project Lifesaver program since June 2024.
Project Lifesaver helps authorities find people who are at risk of wandering because of cognitive conditions or other special needs.
