Wed, 07/22/2026 - 17:46 Body Volume I: Chapter I, "Prehistoric Man in Pecos County" Pecos County has been described by various terms: to the archeologist it is the Northeastern Trans-Pecos, or the middle Pecos River Valley; to the botanist it is the Chihuahuan Biotic Province; to the geologist it is the Central Basin Platform of the Permian Basin; and to the historian Pecos County is the land "west of the Pecos." Whatever its title Pecos County and adjacent areas east and west of the Pecos River were home to prehistoric man for thousands of years.
