TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - The Texas African American Museum (TAAM), a division of Empowerment Community Development Corporation, will host a special Major Kennedy Day celebration on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Empowerment CDC Complex in Tyler.

President and Founder of Empowerment Community Development Corporation, Stanley Cofer, described his personal journey discovering the extraordinary life of Major Kennedy.

Cofer said that there was not much information available online about Kennedy and he had to reach out to family members to uncover pictures and information about his life."Major Kennedy is a success story ... it is extraordinary story that needs to be told ... we hope to motivate ... the younger generation," Cofer said.
