3 suspects arrested in connection with deadly northeast Bexar County shooting, affidavits say

A Lubbock teenager has been indicted on murder charges following the fatal shooting of a man in an apartment complex parking lot early last month. Keymarion Burton, 18, was taken into custody in connection with the July 5 incident and remains jailed while awaiting trial on a combined bond of $275,000. Law enforcement officers arrived at an apartment complex near North Ithaca Street shortly after midnight in response to reports of gunfire. They discovered a man, identified as Joe Ybarra Jr., lying unresponsive in the parking lot with injuries from multiple gunshots. Ybarra was rushed to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

In a separate deadly shooting case in the San Antonio area, investigators used automated license plate detection technology to apprehend three suspects. The incident occurred in the early morning hours of a Monday at the intersection of Waterside Drive and Crestway Road in northeast Bexar County. Deputies responding to the scene around 2:30 a.m. found a 31-year-old man dead inside a black Mitsubishi Lancer with gunshot wounds.

Witnesses at the crime scene provided investigators with crucial details about the moments leading up to the fatal shooting. Individuals present reported seeing a white Volvo sedan parked along the roadside before the violence erupted. As their own vehicle approached the intersection, the Volvo pulled alongside them and gunfire erupted from within the vehicle, according to witness accounts documented in arrest affidavits.

Law enforcement utilized automatic license plate readers to track the suspect vehicle. Approximately one minute before emergency services received the shooting report, the technology had detected the white Volvo approximately half a mile away from the shooting location at New World Drive and Miller Road. Officers later identified the vehicle as a loaner from a car dealership, which provided them with an address to investigate.

A sheriff's sergeant observed the white Volvo parked in a residential garage around 11:25 a.m. that same morning at a home in the 1900 block of Clay Oak Drive. Two individuals, a man and a woman, were spotted cleaning the interior of the vehicle at that time. The car was subsequently located back at the dealership on Northeast Loop 410, where Robert Barnett, 38, and Kyle Erin Torres-Carcovich, 45, were detained as they arrived. The vehicle's license plate matched the one detected by automated readers minutes before the shooting report.

Charges have been filed against three individuals in connection with the Bexar County incident. Barnett and Torres-Carcovich, along with Martin Sanchez Jr., 58, have all been charged with failure to report a felony resulting in serious bodily injury or death, a Class A misdemeanor. Additionally, Sanchez faces a third-degree felony charge of tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair.
