A young passenger sustained critical injuries Tuesday evening after a Dallas man fleeing a domestic conflict struck the vehicle in which the child was riding, authorities said.
The collision occurred around 4:43 p.m. in the Pleasant Grove area near the intersection of North Masters Drive and Elam Road. Police responded to reports of a disturbance at a residence in the 10300 block of Elam Road, where the suspect was involved in what officers described as a domestic situation, according to Dallas police.
Rather than remain at the scene, the suspect fled the address and subsequently collided with another vehicle at the intersection. The impact left the child, who was a passenger in the struck vehicle, in critical condition. Emergency responders transported the child for medical treatment, though specific details about the youngster's age and identity were not disclosed by police.
Officers apprehended the suspect at the scene without further incident. His identity and the charges he will face remain pending his processing at the Dallas County jail system. Law enforcement did not specify whether any other individuals sustained injuries in the crash or provide additional information about the suspect's circumstances.
Dallas police indicated they continue investigating the initial domestic disturbance that prompted the suspect's flight from the residence. Authorities said further details regarding charges and the suspect's identity would be released following his booking procedures.
