A pair of undefeated programs from opposing coaching philosophies prepare to square off Friday night in North Texas, while football action across the state delivered mixed results for teams in various stages of their seasons.

In Kendall County, the Boerne High football squad remained perfect on the season with a dominant 42-21 home victory against Somerset. The Greyhounds' offense proved explosive throughout the contest, with quarterback Grant Sweeney orchestrating the attack by throwing six touchdown passes. One play stood out in particular: a 99-yard scoring strike from Sweeney to receiver Zach Freasier. The win improved Boerne to 4-0 before the team shifts its focus to district play with a road trip to Alamo Heights next week.

Fellow Boerne ISD school Champion High also continued its winning ways, dismantling Kyle Lehman 59-3 in a game that was essentially decided by intermission. The Chargers' defense held their opponents scoreless through the first half while building a 48-0 cushion. Champion improved to 4-0 overall with a 2-0 record in league competition and faces a significant step up in competition this week when hosting Austin Anderson, an undefeated squad that opened its district slate with a 49-7 victory over Lockhart.

Geneva School of Boerne saw its offensive prowess stalled in district play. The Eagles, accustomed to averaging nearly 50 points per game, found their match in Brazos Christian. The visiting squad held Geneva to 23 points while scoring 49 in a 49-23 district-opening loss. The Eagles will attempt to rebound at home against Corpus Christi John Paul II during Senior Night festivities.

Further north, the Muenster Hornets and Collinsville Pirates, both undefeated at 3-0, prepare for a matchup that pits two coaches with a deep-rooted friendship. Brady Carney, who has guided Muenster to three state championships, will face off against Garrett Patterson's Collinsville squad at 7 p.m. Friday at Hornet Stadium. Despite their mutual respect, Carney believes the Pirates have constructed a championship-caliber team. "If they stay healthy, they get a chance to play for a state championship," Carney said, citing quarterback Paxton Davidson as a key asset. The Pirates defeated Bells 34-14 last week, while Muenster narrowly edged Windthorst 33-28 in their most recent outing.

High school football activity Friday also included an early-season matchup in the Rio Grande Valley. Weslaco and PSJA North met in a game of the week billing with partly cloudy skies and temperatures near 89 degrees expected at kickoff.
