Fredericksburg confirms downtown, wineries operating as Hill Country flood response continues

As flood response and recovery efforts continue across the Texas Hill Country, the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce is sharing an update on conditions in Fredericksburg and Gillespie County. [Fredericksburg Standard]

Odessa Fire Rescue sent a six-member team to assist with flood recovery operations in the Texas Hill Country region this week as heavy rains impacted multiple communities across the area.

Two paramedics from the Odessa department, Elbis Nicolas and Will Moody, were dispatched Wednesday as part of the Texas Emergency Medical Task Force to provide medical support during the emergency response. A day later, four firefighters — Rockiey Juarez, Rocky Adams, Jarod Cowen and Casey Lee — joined rescue efforts through the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System to support fire and rescue operations in flood-affected areas.

The deployment came as floodwaters rose in the region, including notable increases along the Pedernales River near Johnson City and surrounding communities. The situation prompted emergency response coordination across multiple jurisdictions as rescue and recovery work continued throughout the week.

In Fredericksburg, business conditions remained relatively stable despite the widespread flooding affecting the broader Hill Country. Downtown shops on Main Street maintained normal operations throughout the week's rain events and were expected to continue serving customers, according to a statement from the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce. The area's wine industry, a major economic driver in Gillespie County, also escaped significant damage, with several prominent wineries confirming plans to remain open for the weekend.

"Our community's focus right now is on the families and communities across the Hill Country who have been impacted by this week's flooding," Jim Mikula, president and CEO of the Fredericksburg Chamber of Commerce, said in a statement. "At the same time, we want to make sure accurate information is available. Fredericksburg's downtown and area wineries are open and operating, and we're grateful to the first responders working to keep our community safe."

The chamber indicated it would continue monitoring conditions and providing updates as the situation developed across the affected region.
