A Frisco man will spend five decades behind bars following his conviction in a machete attack on a security guard at a local mosque last year. Malik Charles Anthony Davis, 27, was found guilty of aggravated assault against a security officer and firearm theft by a Collin County jury, with the sentence announced Tuesday by District Attorney Greg Willis.

The assault occurred June 7, 2025, at the Islamic Center of Frisco in the 11000 block of Frisco Street. According to court records, Davis had spent several months regularly visiting the facility while claiming to be homeless, receiving meals and occasional shelter from the congregation. On the evening in question, security guard Omar Yaqoob was closing the building after finishing evening prayers when Davis emerged from a locker room, dressed entirely in black with his face covered by a hood. Without warning, Davis struck Yaqoob repeatedly with a machete, inflicting severe injuries. During the violent confrontation, Yaqoob's holstered firearm was dislodged, and Davis seized the weapon before fleeing the scene. Frisco police apprehended him shortly thereafter.

Investigators Detective Travis Chapman and Lieutenant Jeffrey Inmon led the initial probe into the attack. Prosecutors presented security footage at trial showing Davis preparing for the ambush and subsequently changing clothes in an effort to avoid identification. Yaqoob testified about the unprovoked nature of the assault and described its lingering effects on his physical and mental well-being. During the sentencing phase, authorities informed jurors that Davis had made threats against a cellmate while detained at the Collin County Jail.

The jury sentenced Davis to 50 years in prison for the aggravated assault conviction and an additional 180 days in state jail for the firearm theft. District Attorney Willis characterized Davis's actions as a violation of the trust the mosque had extended to him. "This coward hid in a place of worship that had shown him compassion, then violently ambushed a security officer with a machete and tried to steal his firearm," Willis said in a statement. "We will not tolerate violence against those who protect our community."
