Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick says James Talarico will "go to hell" for his view of the Bible

Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick sparked controversy at the Texas GOP Convention in Houston on Friday by accusing Democratic U.S. Senate nominee James Talarico of bringing his Christian faith into the contentious Senate race.
Talarico, an Austin state representative, has made his faith a cornerstone of his campaign, and Patrick took issue with this approach. "I've never seen so much blasphemy from anyone running for office," Patrick said. He also expressed concerns that Talarico's views on the Bible would lead him to "go to hell" if he were to lose the Senate race.
The exchange came as Democrats seek to capitalize on anti-Trump sentiment and claim the minority party's first statewide victory in over three decades. The Senate race is expected to be expensive and brutal, with both parties vying for control of the seat. Patrick's comments have drawn criticism from some, who see them as an attempt to intimidate or dismiss Talarico's faith-based campaign strategy.
