The Irving Police Department said it's investigating a deadly wrong-way crash that unfolded early Saturday morning and resulted in the arrest of two people. [CBS DFW]

A motorcyclist died in a head-on collision with an impaired driver traveling the wrong direction on a major North Texas highway early Saturday, according to authorities in Irving.

The crash occurred shortly after 2:30 a.m. on State Highway 114 near the Hidden Ridge area, with the accident involving a westbound vehicle that had entered the eastbound lanes of traffic. The motorcycle rider was struck head-on by the improperly traveling car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Irving police took the vehicle's driver into custody at the location, with officers determining the operator was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Additionally, a passenger in the vehicle was apprehended on suspicion of public intoxication.

The identity of the motorcyclist killed in the collision has not been released by authorities. Police also have not disclosed the names of the arrested driver and passenger as of the time of reporting.

The Irving Police Department is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident on the heavily traveled corridor near MacArthur Boulevard.
