A teenager who went fishing at a Toledo-area pond last Saturday did not return home, prompting a search that ended with the discovery of his body in the water. Police received a missing person call at the pond after the young man's mother reported she could not locate her 18-year-old son following his afternoon outing. Rescue teams responding to the scene located the submerged body of Anson Crandall in the pond.
The coroner's office confirmed Crandall's identity and determined through autopsy that he died by drowning. Investigators found no evidence suggesting criminal activity was involved in his death, according to Toledo police officials.
Crandall attended St. Francis de Sales School, where he was entering his senior year in the fall. School officials remembered him as an accomplished artist with a strong presence in the campus community. "Let us continue to support one another and pray for Anson, his family, and our community in the days ahead," a statement from the school read.
In response to the tragedy, St. Francis de Sales School organized a Monday evening prayer service at Gesu Church to remember the teenager. School administrators arranged for counselors to be present during the service to assist students processing grief from the loss.
