Two men shot after suspects in car open fire in northwest Houston, HPD says

A fatal shooting in northwest Houston early Sunday marks the second violent incident in the area within 48 hours, though authorities have not determined if the cases are connected.
Police responded to Oakwood Gardens apartment complex in the 5600 block of Antoine Drive at approximately 1:20 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of gunshots. Officers discovered a man lying in the courtyard with multiple gunshot wounds affecting his head and chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators estimated the victim was in his 60s but had not released his name as of early Sunday. The Houston Police Department's Homicide Division is handling the investigation.
Detectives working the case believe the man may have traveled to the apartment complex intentionally to confront an individual, leading to the fatal encounter. However, authorities offered no immediate details about a potential suspect or motive. The shooting occurred less than half a mile from another violent incident that unfolded Friday evening. Around 10:20 p.m. that night, two men were walking and eating ice cream in the 6100 block of West Tidwell Road when a vehicle with four occupants pulled alongside them and opened fire. One victim sustained injuries to his abdomen while the other was wounded in the arm. Both were transported to a hospital in stable condition. Officers detained an individual near the scene who provided information about the suspect vehicle and remaining shooters.
Police characterized the Friday shooting as potentially random, noting investigators found no indication the victims knew their attackers. Authorities said there was no ongoing threat to the public regarding that incident. When asked whether the two shootings might be related, police said they have not established any connection between the cases, despite the close proximity and timing of the incidents. The Major Assaults Division is investigating the Friday case.
