Bitcoin Mining Facility Sparks Concerns in Tyler

A proposed Bitcoin mining data center on West Erwin Street in Tyler has raised concerns among residents, who gathered for a community meeting to voice their worries. The facility, which would generate 12,500 megawatts of electricity, is expected to be operated by Barrio, a data center operator, and leased from Vulcan Core LLC.

At the meeting, Mark Buntsev, a representative from Vulcan Core, assured residents that there would be no negative effects on nearby homes. However, concerns about water usage and noise pollution were still top of mind for many attendees. [KLTV Channel 7 News] cited a developer's statement saying that the facility would not tap into city water supplies, but some residents remain skeptical.

While Vulcan Core claims to have mitigated potential environmental impacts, community members are eager to see more information about the project's specifics and how it will be managed. As the proposal moves forward, it remains to be seen whether the benefits of the data center will outweigh the concerns of local residents.
