HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- A woman is in custody after a shooting involving a METRO bus in the River Oaks area, according to the Houston Police Department. [ABC13 Eyewitness News]

A shooting aboard a Houston public transit bus left one man hospitalized Friday afternoon, prompting authorities to arrest a female suspect at the scene, the Houston Police Department confirmed.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 3600 block of Westheimer Road in the River Oaks area during the afternoon hours. The incident unfolded aboard a Metropolitan Transit Authority bus, which remained cordoned off with crime scene tape as investigators processed the location.

A male passenger sustained injuries in the shooting and was transported to a nearby hospital where medical personnel maintained him in stable condition. No additional victims were reported from the incident.

Police took a woman into custody at the location shortly after the shooting occurred. As of Friday evening, authorities had not released the suspect's identity or disclosed information regarding possible charges she may face.

The circumstances surrounding the confrontation remain unclear. Investigators at the scene have not disclosed what prompted the shooting or the nature of any interaction between the shooter and the victim prior to the gunfire.
