Next Tuesday, Oct. 6, will be the 2026 National Night Out, a community-building initiative that promotes camaraderie between neighbors and law enforcement officers.

The 43rd annual event is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and is intended to prevent crime, drugs and violence by promoting a cooperative relationship between police and community members, according to a proclamation from the Comal County Commissioners Court.

"The 'National Night Out' event is a year-long community building campaign designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals to let them know that neighborhoods are organized and are fighting back," the proclamation stated.
