Smith County eyes smaller tax hike, bigger raises for law enforcement

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Smith County leaders are looking at raising the property tax rate by about a penny, lower than first expected.
Smith County Auditor Timothy Hollis says the estimated impact on the median homestead of $255,000 is about an $87 increase from last year.
The auditor says the increase is due to a rise in the rate plus an increase in homestead values.
