MIDLAND COUNTY, Texas (KOSA) - The Highway Emergency Response Operator program has entered its second year of service in the Permian Basin after completing its first year along Interstate 20 and State Highway 191.

First-year assist totalsDuring its first year, HERO operators provided:250 tire changes42 jump-startsFuel assistance for 90 vehiclesWater and other support for stranded motoristsTraffic-control assistance at crashes, traffic stops and roadway hazardsProgram operationsHERO vehicles patrol approximately 62 miles of roadway between Midland and Odessa.

Operators are on duty 12 hours per day, seven days per week.
