The Texas Hill Country has three major pillars of its modern economy: tourism, summer camps and deer season, which begins formally next weekend.
Famous for beef jerky and ring sausage for the past 75 years, Bernhard Meat Market between Kerrville and Ingram has a new owner this season, but the tradition and heritage of the business remain.
"Nothing's changing. We will still process meat the way Milton Bernhard did for so many years," said Wyatt Mobley, new owner of Bernhard's last week.
