BREWSTER COUNTY, Texas (KOSA) - A multi-agency rescue team used a U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopter Friday morning to evacuate a boater in medical distress from a remote section of the Rio Grande.

Brewster County Dispatch first received an emergency satellite text from a Garmin device Thursday evening alerting officials that eight people on a river trip needed help in the county's extreme southeastern backcountry.

Brewster County Sheriff's Office said, because the location is inaccessible by road and severe weather grounded air assets overnight, emergency crews could not immediately reach the group.
