A New Braunfels firefighter has been placed on administrative leave following controversial social media posts, according to City Manager Robert Camareno.

John Weige, a Lieutenant at the fire department, has made and re-shared several posts with derogatory statements towards Muslims and immigrants.

Weige called Muslims "pigs," and shared posts stating that the religion is "a hostile, totalitarian political ideology," and that followers should "convert, submit, or die." One re-shared post says that "Removing all Muslim culture from the United States is not racism ..." another says, "The best thing about Heaven? No Muslims." In his own words, Weige stated, "Who wants to have a watch party for the livestream execution of the Muslim pig Hasan?" in reference to the upcoming execution of Nidal Hasan, who fatally shot 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009. Hasan's execution will be the first by firing squad since World War II, and on Oct. 8, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the execution would be publicly live-streamed, according to PBS News.
