The second season of Brownwood Lions football under head coach Jeryl Brixey began with an upset victory last week, and the maroon and white seek a repeat performance as they open the home portion of their schedule against the reigning Class 4A Division I state champion and top-ranked Stephenville Yellow Jackets.

The 86th Battle of 377 kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday at Gordon Wood Stadium, where the Lions (1-0) are looking to upend the Yellow Jackets (1-0) for the first time since 2019, and snap Stephenville's series-best six-game win streak.

"Stephenville is the top of the mountain in 4A until someone knocks them off," Brixey said.
