CONROE, Texas - The number of interference with public duties cases filed in Montgomery County jumped sharply from 2017 to 2025 rising by nearly 700%, according to records obtained by KPRC 2 from the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office, with a majority of the cases ending with a dismissal.

KPRC 2 analyzed more than 900 interference with public duties cases filed in Montgomery County between January 2017 and June 2026.

Here is a year-by-year breakdown of the statistics: Under Texas law, a person can be charged with interference with public duties when, through criminal negligence, the person interrupts, disrupts, impedes or otherwise interferes with a peace officer performing a lawful duty.
