WARD COUNTY, Texas (KOSA/Gray News) - A 30-year-old woman is dead after a detached tire hit her vehicle on a Texas interstate earlier this month.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, officers responded to the Aug. 3 crash at mile marker 89 on Interstate 20 at 6:10 p.m. A Chevrolet 3500 traveling westbound had a mechanical failure that caused the front left tire and wheel to separate from the vehicle, authorities said.

The detached tire rolled across the center median and into the eastbound lane, where it hit the windshield and roof of a Toyota 4Runner.
