"I'm going to do you guys proud." These were some of New Braunfels Mayor Michael French's first words after being sworn in on June 22.

Now, French has served as mayor for more than 100 days, and much like the election that got him here, that time has been filled with spirited debate and, at times, contention.

French was elected on June 13 in a runoff election after neither secured the majority vote in May.
