The Brownwood High tennis team, by the narrowest of margins, earned a Region I-4A bi-district championship Tuesday with a 10-9 triumph over Monahans at Glenn Middle School.
The decisive moments in the match came when the mixed doubles tandem of Eleanor Cannon and Eli Risch collected their first victory of the season (6-1, 6-2 over Diana Marquez and Eubanks) for Brownwood, and No. 4 boys single Cooper Morgan rallied in a three-set tiebreaker (6-7[5], 6-1, 10-3 over Omar Quiroz).
The Lions swept all nine of their matches as victories in doubles play belonged to the No. 1 team of Blake Hutchins and Aiden Oplotnik (6-0, 6-1 over Jordan Jackson and Javen Sedillo), No. 2 pairing Morgan and Ian Cervantes (6-3, 6-4 over Michael Inman and Josh Wilder), and No. 3 duo Duncan Dennison and Parker Dennison (6-3, 6-0 over Quiroz and Sebastian Avila).
