WHITEHOUSE, Texas (KLTV) - Higgins Elementary School in Whitehouse has started a new program called "Dudes on Duty" that brings fathers, grandfathers and uncles to campus each Thursday to greet students, according to Principal Crystal Porche.

Porche said the idea came from brainstorming with Dr. Whittle over the summer about how to get parents more involved on campus.

The school already has groups including the Kindness Squad, the Responsibility Alliance, and high school and UT Tyler athletes who volunteer to open doors for students."So brainstorming over the summer with Doctor Whittle on how can we get our parents to feel like they can be more involved in our campus? And so I came up with dudes on duty. I open up doors on Thursday to greet our kids," Porche said.
