A man in his early 30s was shot three times by a hospital security officer Saturday night after authorities said he grabbed a knife inside the emergency room at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital at 921 Gessner Road.

According to Houston police, the man arrived around 6 p.m. seeking help and told staff he was suicidal.

Hospital employees treated him and placed him in a secluded area of the emergency department.
