TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) - Temple voters have rejected Proposition A, turning down a proposal to issue up to $15 million in general obligation bonds to replace the century-old Sammons Community Center, according to unofficial election results released Wednesday by the City of Temple.
The proposition asked voters whether the city should issue the bonds to demolish the existing 18,300-square-foot building and construct a new 20,000-square-foot multigenerational facility.
City leaders placed the measure on the Nov. 3 ballot after independent engineering assessments conducted in the wake of the May 2024 tornado identified significant structural deficiencies in the 1920s-era facility, including an overloaded roof system, inadequate bracing, and weakened brick walls.
