NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - Some Texas college students could earn their bachelor's degree a year early, as soon as next year, under a new program introduced by Gov. Greg Abbott to fast-track select high-demand degree programs.

Abbott visited Stephen F. Austin State University to talk to students about the program, which would implement a three-year bachelor's degree."There'll be legislation passed on it in May," Abbott said.

"The effective date will either be sometime over the summer or late September of next year. But this will be ready to go for the next school year."Abbott said the program is meant to address high tuition costs and help raise the college graduation rate in the state.
