WACO, Texas (KWTX) - The coach of what is believed to be the Waco area's first girls flag football team says the University Interscholastic League's decision to approve the sport as a pilot program is good news for his Lady Vikings, even though they play under a different governing body.

The UIL has approved girls flag football as an official pilot program for the 2028-29 school year, according to the announcement.

The Houston Texans Foundation, led by Chief Community Officer and Vice President Hannah McNair, has championed the sport since launching its Girls Flag Football Program in 2023.
