LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - Lufkin City Council members voted are making an effort to further shield residential areas from industrial interference, passing a resolution asking the state to empower counties to do the same.

The council approved the changes to the city's Zoning Ordinance No. 3368, which had previously not been "substantially updated" since 2010, in a Tuesday meeting.

Key changes include limiting distance from residential areas, height, noise and light:New requirements limiting the height of industrial buildings next to residential property to the same measurement as the distance from the residential property line.
